While very young, Juan Quesada Celado began his artistic
work, spurred by the curiosity about the pottery created by his ancestors.
He greatly admired the pieces and longed to understand the techniques used
to create them. Therefore, he devoted over three years to experimenting with
ways by which to reproduce them and, finally, achieved it. He learned how to
fabricate the pieces as well as the colorants with which to decorate them.
Juan Quesada had always hoped to create works that would
leave a mark on his life as well as the life of others. Far from being
secretive about his techniques, he has generously contributed to his
community, the village of Juan Mata Ortiz, in the state of Chihuahua,
sharing his knowledge with the young apprentices who have shown an interest
in the craft.
Little by little, his work has demonstrated increasing
knowledge and skill. Today, his pieces are known throughout a great part of
the United States where he has had the opportunity to show his work in
museums and on university campuses.
